About the Artist

Luciana Proaño is a Peruvian dancer and artist dedicated to multidisciplinary and cross cultural work. Her unique aesthetic style shows that her Peruvian heritage and world travels are blended deeply in her subconscious. In Portland since 1993.

Teaching Philosophy

I teach for people to discover something about themselves while enjoying collaboration and community. Mythology fosters open minds in a diverse world where we are a microcosm of that diversity.

Testimonial

"Luciana's creative wisdom and outstanding teaching practices, and more importantly, her willingness to connect with our curriculum, made this an amazing experience for my students and me" Teacher, Sunnyside

Program Description

A joyful session of group line and partner dances. Students will build self-confidence and mutual respect. The residency encourages collaboration, safety, and awareness of physical and emotional presence. Choose a dance style from the Spanish speaking countries of South America to learn patterns and improvisation. The teaching is supported by regional mythology, geography and history. Enjoy the flavor of a well traveled native Peruvian! Some dances require props that the children will make as part of the residency, these will require an additional cost of $4.00 per child. The residency may culminate in an informal performance of the work in progress.

This program may be done as a residency or a single session workshop.
