Program Description

Want to learn a bit more about some great artists? This is a wonderful choice for elementary teachers who are wanting a brief and fun overview of a couple of influential Western artists in our vast lexicon. Each class starts with a fun oral story that includes highlights of an artist's life and what they contributed to the world of visual art. Then the students will have a chance to explore a project using a theme from the visual artist of the day. The mediums vary, so the students will explore paint, drawing, or collage during the residency. There are five lessons that will cover the Western artists Klee, Kandinsky, Marc, O'Keefe and Hundertwasser. In the lessons the students will also study sequenced themes that include value, composition, primary, and secondary colors. From each class the student will create a piece of unique art and come away knowing more about art history, vocabulary and techniques. Having a gallery show at the end can also be a great way to celebrate and will be decided by the classroom teacher.
