About the Artist

Teaching has shaped Karie's professional career as a ceramic artist. Inspired by learning to create a diverse body of work, she enjoys making figurative sculpture, functional ware, tile and mosaics.

Teaching Philosophy

Karie likes to see kids learn by making discoveries through exploration. She finds that if she can create curiosity, the kids awaken to what's possible with clay. They're ready to learn and create.

“All students were pleased with their work. They had their own thoughts about what to produce and were encouraged to do that.” --Teacher, private school, Portland
