Mind to Mime to Word: How Stories Are Created ... Less

Professional mime and circus clown Albert Alter performs a variety of short vignettes as he demonstrates the elements of a good story—beginning, middle and end, characters, setting, conflict and resolution. He illustrates with humor, imagination and improvisation how the art of mime is a foundation for acting, for creating and telling a story and for basic communication. During this fast-moving program, Albert teaches the audience a mime routine, helping them better understand the relationship between ideas, images, creativity, the written and spoken word and the creation of stories.

Ladies & Gentlemen, Children of All Ages: Exploring the ... Less

Students use circus and clown skills to explore the abstract concepts of gravity, force, motion, inertia and balance in this fun-filled residency led by Albert Alter, former chemical engineer and Ringling Bros. Barnum & Bailey Circus clown. They learn to juggle and balance objects, coming to scientifically understand why some are easier to balance than others, and also learn how circus performers use science to create “enhanced performance value moves” that make a routine spectacular! Developed through the John F. Kennedy Center's Seminar on arts-integrated residencies.

Additional Costs: Expect equipment rental costs if artist's equipment is used.
