Tracie Broughton

About the Artist

Tracie has been making art for 25 years as a graphic designer, illustrator, studio artist and art instructor. Students teach her to treasure wonder and surprise, just as much as concept and skill.

Teaching Philosophy

Physical engagement, including lively interaction, exhibits focus. In her classes, Tracie gauges success not only by end results but also by the cues of comprehension she gets from each face, voice & body.

"It was a pleasure watching Tracie work with students in such a positive manner. She made them feel successful throughout the entire process." --4th grade teacher, PPS

Life Sculpture Less

This residency challenges young artists to work together through all phases of a sculpture project including brainstorming, planning, production and assembly--rewarding them in the end with an amazing life sized figure sculpture that truly captures the essence of a body at play. Following an introduction to sculpture, students choose a “play” or “sports” related theme, collect props, select models, establish efficient production protocol, attend to the quality of their work, assemble parts and determine how and where to display. The resulting 3-D anatomical snapshot is an amalgamation of the group members, created entirely by the students. These sculptures make great installation or auction pieces.

Additional Costs: Additional planning and prep hours will be billed at $50/hour.

What is it? An Action Painting Collaboration Less

The aim of this residency is not only to define and discuss the term ‘Abstract’ which itself means “hard to understand,” but also to remove certain barriers that can keep us from enjoying abstract art—especially the anxiety of not “getting it.” Students will explore the world of expressionism and discover that music, movement and painting can all help us express abstract concepts like our feelings. Fully engaging their eyes, ears and bodies, young artists will delight in the making of an action painting inspired by a complex of musical themes, all while getting to know the qualities of acrylic paint as well as a variety of tools and techniques.

Additional Costs: Additional planning and prep hours will be billed at $50/hour.
