About the Artist

Melanie Moseley and Rick Huddle have been acting, improvising, playing music, and leading workshops for adults and children for many, many years at theaters & schools all over the US.

Teaching Philosophy

Theater, improvisation, and comedy can change lives. These art forms can reach kids that don't have a lot of success in other school activities. We create a fun, safe, and playful environment.

"The students were entertained, motivated, & excited to write every day." - Collins, Bridger
"My students love POW and so do I." Sparling, Rosa Parks

Play on Words- POW! Less

Curious Comedy's Play on Words (POW!) Program is a writing program that uses improvisational theater to inspire students to put words on the page. Two teaching artists from our Training Center lead residencies for 4th, 5th, and 6th grade students, using improv games to teach the principles of writing and storytelling. Using the Portland Public School English Language Arts Standards as the blue print for the curriculum, the residency teaches how to express character, environment, structure, conflict and dialogue.

Schools can choose between 3 and 12 sessions. If schools select the full program, students will have written a 2-6 page story including all the elements outlined in the PPS curriculum. Throughout, students will have the opportunity to improvise scenes, characters, and storylines.
