About the Artist

4 nationalities (Ecuador, El Salvador, Peru, US) and individual lifetimes of international performance make up Inka Jam. They are dedicated to researching S.American folklore, funk and jazz, blending cultures in their original compositions.

Teaching Philosophy

Their multicultural performances model how different worlds can joyfully partner together without losing their identity. They love fusion with an Andean flare! Music and dance are universal languages which motivate awareness, understanding and peace.

Inka Jam, Myths and Music from South America Less

A journey through South America in songs, instrumental music and mythology with Luciana Proaño from Peru and accomplished musicians Alex Llumiquinga (Ecuador) Tito Amaya (El Salvador) JB Butler (USA) We combine traditional material with our own compositions in the style of different South American traditions. The instrumentation is diverse and combines acoustic and electric instruments but we can also perform totally unplugged. Most band members are multi-instrumentalists and we include dances in beautiful traditional costumes. The instruments and costumes are displayed and explained. Short narratives of myths as well as historic and geographic context introduce some of the songs. Audience participation is encouraged with singing clapping and movement, plus we bring a basket of shakers to distribute among the children. We can also bring additional drums and invite some children on stage. The program can be tailored to the school’s needs, for example if requiring emphasis on a single country.

Travel: IRS rate for any location outside a 15-mile radius of downtown Portland.

Venue Requirements: PA system with 4 microphones and stands and two direct lines in. Or we can bring our own PA for an additional cost of $200 per day. Nearby outlets or extension cord. One table, one chair. An elevated stage or the children sitting in U shape and tiers in a gym. A nearby changing room or we can do the whole performance in the same costume.
