About the Artist
Luciana Proaño is a Peruvian dancer and artist dedicated to multidisciplinary and cross cultural work. Her unique aesthetic style shows that her Peruvian heritage and world travels are blended deeply in her subconscious. In Portland since 1993.
Teaching Philosophy
I teach for people to discover something about themselves while enjoying collaboration and community. Mythology fosters open minds in a diverse world where we are a microcosm of that diversity.
Testimonial
"Luciana's creative wisdom and outstanding teaching practices, and more importantly, her willingness to connect with our curriculum, made this an amazing experience for my students and me" Teacher, Sunnyside
Program Description
Making self-portraits in the form of dolls, the children will learn to design, create a pattern, cut fabric and sew. There is also the option to stitch on canvas in a collage fashion instead.
This project will motivate self-reflection and will encourage socialization and self-esteem as they share who they are with their peers. They will be encouraged to practice observational and social-emotional skills as they see themselves in the mirror and describe each other's work.
Includes observing famous self-portraits and dolls from different cultures. We will talk about the use of dolls across cultures and throughout history.
