About the Artist

Alex was born in Ghana and came to the US to join his father, Obo Addy. He performs across the US and teaches in Portland. Michael was also born into music and dancing. He taught and performed in Accra, Ghana, before moving to the US to do the same.

Teaching Philosophy

Alex and Michael's goal is to teach the students respect for the culture and each other while sharing specific drumming and musical techniques through the lens of discipline and focus.

Program Description

Teachers learn hands on the history and culture of Ghana by playing traditional Ghanaian drums and rhythms, and dancing traditional Ghanaian dancing. They will learn about the culture of Ghana and how its history has formed the dancing and drumming. This is an active workshop where teachers get to learn using all their senses!
