About the Artist

As a teacher, Donna is known for her enthusiasm, passion, and respect for the origins of the culture and styles of dances she shares. Her classes are fun, challenging and educational, with a lot of support & encouragement for self-expression.

Teaching Philosophy

Having passion for what it is that you are sharing with others is key. My belief is that students learn best through experience and experimentation. Learning to express through dance can be an invaluable form of self-discovery.

Program Description

'Journey Brazil' is an interactive immersion into the rich history and art of Brazilian Culture. Students will directly experience diverse rhythms ranging from the tranquil beats of the serpent deity, Oxum, to the explosive sounds of Samba. Participation is key in this performance. Students will be singing, learning simple hand clapping rhythms, and follow along with easy to learn steps of the vibrant street dance- Samba Reggae! By participating in the cultural activities and understanding the historical background of each tradition, students will come to identify with another culture and its practices in addition to having a great time. Audience members come away from the show humming a tune, with a new bounce in their step, and you might even catch them exchanging a new salutation in Portuguese in the hallways at school.
