About the Artist
Jess Graff has delivered arts-based programs in the Pacific NW for nearly 15 years. She has participated in many gallery shows and residency programs at schools, art centers, and museums. Her work ranges from sculptural ceramics to fibers and paint media.
Teaching Philosophy
Jess Graff is passionate about creating accessible, equitable classroom spaces and choice-based arts experiences that invite people of diverse ages and backgrounds to collaborate, create, and communicate together.

Program Description
Students will create mixed-media maps of real and imagined places to foster thinking about space, place, and community. Literacy, social justice, and math concepts are integrated into curriculum.
Day 1: Understanding maps
Students will look at examples of maps and talk about needs of community members
Begin paper decoration for map building. (Stamping, drawing, or paint)
Day 2: Building Communities
Students will begin collaging maps using decorated and recycled papers and other mixed- media assemblage, modge-podge, etc.
Day 3: Finishing and Reflecting
Students will add marks with various drawing implements to add details, show distance, direction, and labeling.
Students will share and reflect on their projects as a group.
