About the Artist
Lulu is a mixed-media visual artist with 12 years of experience as a certified teacher. She is well-versed in many forms of visual arts, including mixed-media painting, drawing, collage, sculpting with paper clay and papier mâché, and textile arts.

Program Description
Traditional quilt block designs are perfect for exploring a variety of math concepts and community building, as well as elements of art. Students can practice what they've learned about patterns, fractions, geometric shapes, symmetry, translations, reflections, rotations, and even coordinate plains!
In session one, students get an overview of quilts and traditional quilt blocks, then take step 1 in creating the hand-painted papers they will use to create their blocks. In sessions 2 and 3, they will continue to create their papers with printing and stamping tools, as well as work on their block designs on grid paper. In session 4 the blocks are created, then joined to create a class quilt. Teachers can then use the finished quilt to discuss the math concepts that were used and the cooperation and community aspects involved in the creation of the quilt.
IMPORTANT NOTE: The artist is bilingual - instruction in Spanish is available!
