About the Artist

OBT strives to share meaningful, high-quality dance with students. We hope to inspire students to move their bodies in different ways and to connect with the community by removing physical and cultural barriers, giving greater access to dance.

Program Description

RESIDENCY GOALS
- Students will actively use their bodies and feel the joy that comes from dancing and creating.
- Students will explore academic concepts through kinesthetic learning and develop social and emotional skills.
- Students will learn about the experiences of dancers from many races and backgrounds who have had significant influence on ballet.

WORK WITH STUDENTS
Students actively use their body to explore academic concepts through creative movement and ballet. OBT teaching artists encourage students to make their own movement choices and find their unique voice. Students may work toward a final dance that may be presented as a performance for other classmates or parents.

OBT is dedicated to sharing with students the experience of dancers from all races and backgrounds who have had significant influence on ballet. OBT recognizes ballet's historically racial prejudice and female stereotypes. Our teaching artists are at work in undoing those stereotypes and helping all students see themselves as dancers.

In addition to an in-school dance residency, Oregon Ballet Theatre may provide access to costumes and pointe shoes, school matinee performances at Keller or Newmark Theatres, tours of OBT studios and a chance to learn what a career in dance looks like.
