Program Description
Students are given the opportunity to explore different art mediums, producing several pieces that can be used to illustrate a book or combined in a collaborative block mural. Students can address concepts like community, social justice, and the environment, or create illustrations for a memoir, biography, narrative, opinion piece, or non-fiction science writing.
Each session, students use a different art medium to create images to respond to a prompt related to the residency topic.
Session 1: oil pastel resist and watercolor
Session 2: collage
Session 3: printmaking
Session 4: This session will be used to touch up any of the pieces made in prior sessions, select the best or most relevant pieces, and combine them in an accordion book with text or in a large collaborative installation.
Rather than using specified materials to create illustrations, students will use art supplies of their choice to make illustrations focusing on the elements of art for their book.
