Program Description

Planet Earth: This science focused residency for 3rd through 5th grade explores various planetary systems through the lens of Creative dramatics. Some examples are: Ecosystems, Weather, Conservation in Pacific Northwest, and the Rainforest.

This 3-5 sessions residency incorporates basic creative dramatics skills that involve body movement, vocal exploration, creative storytelling, and problem solving through ensemble, partner, and independent activities. Students investigate these tools and how they are useful in communication, speaking, and creatively bringing ideas to life and story while community building.

Some Planet Earth Content Focus examples:
"Conservation: Impact of Humans on Environment:
Highlighting ways to be aware and connected with the Earth through cause and effect."
The idea of "What I do, impacts others" will carry throughout the residency as students investigate the transfer of energy and ways of thinking globally while taking action locally, specifically noting Pacific Northwest environmental challenges.
Using creative dramatics activities, students will make stories that bring these ideas and solutions to life. These stories could be utilized as a peer-teaching piece between grade levels.

"Voices of the Rainforest": Studying ecology and character development. Students will focus on the people, products, outside harmful factors, and conservation of the rainforest. How resource availability and changes to physical or biological components of an ecosystem affect populations.

"Voices of the Weather": Workshopping Facts and Forms of Weather and the relationship to the Earth. Students imagine an embodied character perspective of weather, or telling stories of historic weather events in the Pacific Northwest, the impact, and future preparation models for such events.
