About the Artist

Beth pulls materials from everyday life and transforms them into art that cultivates connection to self, community and the planet. With each piece she is tending to our need for community and strengthening the routes and bridges back to our humanity.

Teaching Philosophy

When we feel connected we are engaged and invested. To cultivate connection I use mindfulness tools alongside creative exploration and play. As we strengthen our connections we are strengthening the possibility of a bright and liberated future for all.

Testimonial

"Beth's insight and intuition are inspiring. Her efficiency and flexibility make her a pleasure to work with." --Lisa Belt, PTA president Ockley Green Middle School

Program Description

In this class we create a unique and beautiful tool. This tool helps each person feel connected to a group and to themselves during these stressful times. This project does not require any special supplies or skills - it is a simple idea that is profound in its usefulness. We begin by grounding our bodies in the present moment, and exploring and examining compliments and affirmations. Then each person learns how to bind a small pocket sized book. We then use collage and drawing to fill this tiny book with images and text that are inspiring and grounding to each unique person. This can be done with just a pencil or with many art supplies - that is up to the situation and the maker!

The virtual workshop consists of two short videos. The first is an introduction to the project and to mindfulness exercises that are grounding. From there we explore affirmations and how it feels to love yourself. The second video is a demonstration of how to bind a pocket sized book and different examples and suggestions on how to fill this tiny book with images and text that are meaningful to the creator. The videos can stand alone or be supplemented with real time sessions with the artist. The real time sessions can include (but are not limited to) introductions and exploring our feelings, additional mindfulness exercises, mixed media collage, basic design and color theory, and reflections and sharing from the process. Regardless, each person that completes this workshop will feel a little more connected to themselves and their community, and leave with a tiny book of their own that is a reminder of that feeling of connection.

This program can be done in person or virtually as a two session workshop, or as a longer residency.
