Program Requirements | Mural design classes can move from classroom to classroom and don't require a sink. Mural painting sessions will require access to water and the area where the mural is being painted. Outdoor murals require a dry, relatively even surfaced area that is close to the ground (not requiring scaffolding to reach). Indoor murals require adequate space around the designated mural wall. Alternatively, murals can be painted on panels to be installed outdoors or on out-of-reach indoor walls. Panel painting will require one dedicated classroom with access to a sink. |

About the Artist
Arcadia creates murals, masks, drawings, and storytelling experiences. She has been teaching creative expression to youth for 20 years. She holds a BA in Creative & Cultural Communication from WWU and trained with Bread & Puppet Theater.
Teaching Philosophy
Arcadia is inspired by the imagination and expressive abilities of youth. She seeks to nurture their innate creativity by allowing youth to make their own discoveries about color, form, and style through projects that offer new ways to see and create.
Testimonial
"Arcadia inspires as she teaches, making the art process accessible and engaging in a safe space where participants can experiment and explore self-expression."
- Sarah Ferguson, Teaching Artist for Arts for Learning Northwest
Program Description
In this community building process, students will create a mural inspired by and celebrating the rich botanical life around their school. Through drawing and collage activities, students will study and portray local plants, trees, and animals. Teaching Artist, Arcadia, will use their drawings to create the mural design. Students will then be guided in painting the mural design with acrylic paint on an outdoor surface, indoor wall, or installable panels depending on weather and space needs.
