About the Artist

Program Description

Goals:
- To cultivate connection to self, to community and to the planet through creative exploration.
- To explore our internal emotional landscape through mindfulness and make it external through art making.
- To use creative exploration as a tool to explore and clarify big ideas and ask challenging questions.
- To practice relationship skills through visual collaboration.
- To remember that play is important work.

Projects:
Beth works with school communities to design unique residencies that serve that communities' specific needs. Beth loves working with paper collage, diverse upcycled materials, paint, clay and mosaic. She leads temporary "joy" murals on cardboard rounds using paper collage to explore positive affirmations and self love. With the same cardboard rounds, but using paint instead of collage, she connects fractions and ratios to patterns and color mixing. She teaches bookbinding to develop self soothing tools. She guides mosaic mural construction with plastic caps to teach about the environmental impact of plastic. Whatever the medium or scope of the project, mindfulness exercises and creative play fulfill her most important goal of cultivating connection.

Requirements:
Depends on the project! For nearly every project access to google and a projector are needed. For ceramics and mosaics there must be a designated classroom with a sink and sufficient storage for supplies and space for incomplete work to be safely stored. For ceramics there must also be a kiln on site. For paper murals, collage and bookbinding Beth can work from one classroom or travel to each classroom. For her to travel from class to class she needs a dedicated cart and space to store supplies between sessions and sometimes an additional drying cart, or space for artwork to dry between sessions. Requirements are flexible and Beth works with the school to develop the project that is right for each school's space and learning goals.
