3. Students discover the power of their bodies and voices to transmit meaning through theatrical conventions.
4. Students learn to work collaboratively on practical problem solving.
5. Students take pride and ownership of their project, and become accountable for their work.
6. Students will learn to approach complex language without fear.

WORK WITH STUDENTS
DEVISED THEATER
Using theater and performance to expand learning
Using texts and/or curriculum of your choosing we will devise a script and a rehearsal and performance process to explore and expand upon subject matter.

Theater is a great way to grapple with difficult subjects that do not have definitive answers and are more complex than list of facts. Recent middle school workshops have dealt with historical civil rights movements, perception and misconception, identity and stereotypes. Using wide ranging and challenging texts, movement, improvisation, and elements of design, we can explore topics that may be better experienced viscerally and physically than from behind a desk.

Usually culminates with a work-in-process style performance for a small audience.

This workshop requires minimum of 2 planning hours to review, assimilate and edit texts or other raw material.
