About the Artist

Lisa's teacher workshops share a method of allowing students to experience the joys and excitement of working with glass without the steep learning curve required to master the technical aspects of kiln-formed glass.

Teaching Philosophy

Lisa believes that the very best way to learn is by doing and her residencies are filled with opportunities to experience glass in many ways which results in a deep understanding of the potential of the material.

Testimonial

"Students were very interested and worked well with Lisa. She was patient, informative and excited about the work produced." --8th grade teacher, PPS

Program Description

If you can fire ceramics in your school kiln, you can fire glass! This fun, informative 90 minutes training empowers you to fire fused-glass projects in the kiln your school already owns. Using the method I used prior to the advent of computer-controlled kilns and kits of pre-cut glass pieces you will learn how easy it is to use this exciting material in your classroom. By learning how to create your own beautiful, one-of-a-kind necklaces, your will how simple it is to teach your students to create pieces they will be proud to wear or give as Mother's Day gifts. This same method can be used to create sun catchers which can reinforce many learning concepts such as symmetry and fractions. All participants will receive access to material kits they can use to create projects in their classrooms. For more information and to see images of projects go to lisawilcke.com and click on Teacher Training. This training can accommodate up to 30 participants. If your community doesn't have that many, feel free to invite teachers from other schools as well.
